It is unclear exactly where the poodle originated from but it is thought that it may be France or Germany. It is assumed that they were originally bred as a water retriever and a gun dog.
A poodle can live up to 14 years, weight up to 70lbs and reach a height up to 15inches (at the shoulder).
Despite their fancy appearance as the ultimate show dog, the Poodle is actually a highly intelligent and robust dog. They excel at agility and obedience training and they also make a very efficient service dog in areas like sled pulling and as a companion to the disabled.

Poodles are a highly intelligent breed who are eager to learn thus making them an easily trainable dog.
An adaptable breed who will suit either city or country living. As Poodles are generally non aggressive they are very good with other family pets and other dogs. Giving its history as a gun dog they do love to chase small animals like squirrels and rabbits.
Poodles do need a lot of exercise especially regular walks and playtime. Grooming is an absolute must when it comes to Poodles. They do not moult but their curly coat does keeps growing if not clipped. Daily grooming with a slicker brush is required to prevent its coat matting. Their coat will need clipping at least once every six weeks.
