Kennel For A Bichon Frise

When choosing a kennel for a Bichon Frise ensure that the size of the kennel allows your dog plenty of room to move about when inside. We suggest our small dog kennel for a Bichon Frise. All check the dimensions when choosing a dog kennel.

It is unclear exactly where the Bichon Frise originates from. Early records show that sailors brought the breed to mainland Europe from Tenerife in the 14th Century. This is why the Bichon Frise is also known as the Tenerife Dog. It is thought the breed had originally been brought to Tenerife from Italy, by sailors on the trade routes. Once in Europe, they became lapdogs to the aristocrats. Later they became performing dogs for the travelling circus and also street performers.

The Bichon can live up to 15 years, weight 12lbs and reach a height of 11 inches (at the shoulder).

No other breed of dog looks more like a cuddly toy than the Bichon Frise, with its fluffy coat, black nose and eyes.

One of the happiest and liveliest of the toy breeds, this affectionate breed makes a wonderful family pet. They are loyal and playful companions who are a lot more robust than their looks imply. They love dog toys. While the Bichon is a good natured dog however it is not recommended for a household with very young children. They are best suited to a family who has lots of time to give it, as they love being the centre of attention.

Easily adaptable the Bichon can fit into most lifestyles whether it be city living or country homes. Given the choice though it would prefer to have a garden to allow it to play outdoors. Their strong willed nature and stubborn streak can mean that they can take longer to train than most other breeds. Consistent and gentle training from puppyhood will be required.

Although they do not require lots of exercise the Bichon has bundles of energy that it needs to burn off whether it is with regular walks or playtime. To keep their coat in good condition they need daily brushing and trimmed every 6 weeks or so. Countryside walks can mean their muddy coats will need a dog bath to avoid tangles.
