How Does The Dog Fence Work?
The dog fence is placed a few inches into the ground and the collar is put on your dog. As the dog approaches the fence it will react with the collar, the type of reaction varies depending on how close the dog goes to the fence. Firstly there will be a tone. This is followed by a low level stimulus. Next, your dog will feel a medium level stimulus, and then the high level stimulus. This acts as a deterrent to keep your dog away from the boundary. All this activity stops once the dog backs away from the fence. These dog fences will work great once they are set up correctly and the dog receives proper training.

Layout
The wire must form a complete loop around the area that has to be enclosed, both starting and finishing at the control unit. Laying out the wire on the ground before you decide where you want to bury it is a good idea. It is best to stick to natural boundary markers such as hedges so that your dog can easily understand where the boundary lies.
Loop Wire Installation: Active Zone/Positioning
There are three options when it comes to installing the dog fence. The first is to tack the wire to a boundary feature at collar height. The second is to lay the wire on the surface. Thirdly, you can bury the wire just below the surface.
Avoid Signal Pick-up!
Be careful not to lie the electric dog fence wire parallel to incoming conductive services such as electricity cables or water pipes. This could cause stray signals to affect the dog’s collar in the house. To avoid this, always cross such services at right angles. Please note that if the wire is attached to a wire mesh fence it will pick up and radiate the signal. This is not an issue if the wire fence is part of the boundary.
Joining The Loop-Wire
Strip both ends of the wire to 1/4″. Then slide a shrink sleeve over one of the wires. Join the two ends together using the metal conductor ensuring to wrap the joint tightly with PVC tape. Slide the sleeve over the assembly and shrink it using gentle heat.
Twisting The Dog Fence Loop-Wire
If you need to cancel the signal when running the wire back across your garden, this can be done. You will need to twist an incoming and outgoing section ensuring that the twists are close enough to cancel the signal.
Locating The Control Unit
This needs to be placed in a covered and quite accessible place. You need to be able to check it on a regular basis to keep an eye on the power source, continuity of the loop and the nominal size of the zone. An ideal place would be next to the door which the dog goes in and out of the house through.
Setting Up The Dog Fence Control Unit
Twist the loop-wire tails all the way from the perimeter to the control unit. Firmly press the white levers towards the circuit board to connect the loop wire tails. Turn the power on and check that the control unit power and zone LED(s) illuminate.
