It’s very easy to hatch your own chicks at home or in school. There are two ways of doing this, firstly with a broody hen that will sit on eggs or secondly with an egg incubator. In this article we are going to cover how to hatch chicks in an egg incubator as it’s sometimes more practical to use than a real life broody hen.
Hatching chicks in an egg incubator allows for the entire process to be seen, right from the very first stage of setting the eggs to the final stage of seeing the chick emerge from the egg. Seeing a live chick emerge from a shell is an amazing sight, for young and old to see.
An egg incubator is a machine that keeps the eggs nice and warm for the entire incubation process, which in the case of chickens is 21 days. Once the fertile eggs are placed in the incubator the incubation process begins. At day 10 it’s possible to use an egg candler to look inside the eggs to see the chick developing and moving. Amazing!
