Originating from Belgium and France, the Bichon Frise is the classic companion dog. Historically they have served many roles, from street performer and circus dog, to associates of many royal families.

Characteristics
The Bichon Frise is a small, yet well built dog with a distinctive short puffy white coat. Considered one of the friendliest and affectionate breeds towards owners, it is always ready and willing to play, walk or simply sit with company.

Temperament
Bichons are tender by nature and very rarely show signs of aggression. They thoroughly enjoy human company and interaction as well as being friendly towards strangers and owners alike.

Suitability as a pet
The Bichon Frise is a dog groomers dream. Requiring regular bathing (every two to three weeks) coat maintenance (brushing/combing three times a week) and dental care. Due to the Bichons friendly nature, they make extremely easy companions and are suited to indoors, making them the ideal breed for those who enjoy the task of regular grooming.

Size and Lifespan
Bichons are a small breed growing anywhere between 23 and 28cm and weighing between 3 and 6kg. When well looked after, their average lifespan can be up to 14 years.
